Wrexham’s Ollie Palmer Reveals What Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Are Really Like as Bosses

Even when cameras aren't rolling, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are Wrexham A.F.C.'s biggest supporters.

Just ask forward Ollie Palmer, who joined the soccer (or football, depending on where you live) team in 2022, just over a year after the Deadpool star and the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor bought the Welsh club.

"They're just two good guys," Palmer, who's appeared alongside the owners on FX’s Emmy-winning series Welcome to Wrexham, recently told E! News. "They’re so down to earth. They treat all of us really well."

In fact, "they couldn't help us anymore if they tried," the 32-year-old noted. "They've always got time for the players and coaching staff and the fans. They do a lot for everyone. They do more than what people know."

And when Palmer found himself on the sidelines due to an injury, Reynolds offered words of encouragement.

"Ryan was probably the first person to reach out to me to say, 'Keep going, we need you out there,'" Palmer shared. "And that means a lot because it's easy to not reach out, it's easy to not check in on people. And he did that."

"But it's the same with everyone, if someone gets injured, he’s the first person to contact them, same with Rob," he noted. "It's great to have owners that want to help you, want to add to your life and give you that encouragement and support."

And it's not just for the show. "They do things for people in the community," Palmer added of the Welsh town with a population of nearly 50,000. "They do so much more than what even so many of us know, but it's not for the cameras."

With Reynolds and McElhenney cheering them on, Wrexham recently earned a promotion to England's League One from the National League.

"We've got a really talented squad," Palmer told E!. "But success isn't really given. There's a lot of teams, even in the National League and League Two, that have big budgets that are trying to get promoted, and it's not easily done. It's a credit to the lads, the coaching staff."

And Palmer is stepping into this new chapter in style, with help from American Crew.

"It was the hair product that first caught my eye because on holiday," he explained of the partnership. "I'm literally doing my hair and then the next day waking up with my hair looking exactly the same. So now I've started using the full sets I just feel a lot better for it."

"It is genuinely a really good product," he added. "And that is why I decided to work with them because I love the product."

While fans get a glimpse of Palmer's style on the soccer field, they also might see him in an extra special project this summer: Reynolds' Deadpool & Wolverine.

"There's always a few surprises in his Deadpool films," he teased. "And there'll be a few small surprises in this one. Some are big, some are small, some are tiny. I’m sure it will be a fantastic movie."
